THE COMET HALLEY

100 YEARS

By: Felipe Argote

In 1910 the entire planet was in turmoil. Diviners, cults and snake charmers broadcast messages of terror. Many committed suicide for fear of the flaming sword of biblical prophecies.
A huge fireball coming towards the earth and its long tail that claimed was full of toxic cyanogen a form of cyanide would sweep the earth. Who did not die by fire die poisoned.
to fill a total solar eclipse for a few minutes left to one huge ball of fire, lighting the sky.
hair was the star returning to visit our solar system, but only a small group of scientists were repositories of knowledge that this comet Halley was named earlier and illuminated the vault of heaven many times every 76 years. Astro hair, that's what it means in Greek comet.
During his time in the 44 years of C the Romans thought that this comet was the soul of Julius Caesar, who had been killed during the Ides of March that year.
The closest the comet has passed by the land was in the year 837 that transitioned to little more than ten times the distance between the moon and the earth

In 1301 Giotto di Bondone, the great painter who was one of the initiators of the Renaissance, painted in a of their works.

In 1456, three years after the fall of Constantinople to the Turks, you see the Halley and Pope Callistus III ordered that the Angelus is recited at noon instead of at six in the evening as was customary, before fear of invasion of Rome by the Muslims.

Di Bondone painted
a comet rather than the star of Bethlehem
Comet Halley has a return period of between 75 and 76. We know this thanks to studies by the British astronomer Edmund Halley origin who in 1705 published an estimate of the comet's orbit and predicted that he would return in 1758. But that year the comet did not come. Calculations made by the astronomer who subsequently developed Claraiut more precise calculations predicted the comet in 1759. The comet made its reappearance in May of that year. Halley had died in 1742.

Although the comet reappeared in 1818 was in 1910 caused more anger and fear in the population, especially because his tail this time passed through the land. Hence come the fables that he would spray cyanide with its tail around the living body on earth.

Although the comet returned on time in 1986 this time was not as dramatic because the land at that time was far from the comet's passage so that was not seen in its magnitude with spectacular close encounter 1910.

In Spain, the lines were long for water provided naf who claimed he was the only thing able to calm the shock when the Earth crosses the comet's tail and liquor Poniol claimed that as he was able to ward off this and all comets.

On his last visit in 1986 sent two spacecraft la Vega and Giotto to study in depth the nature of Halley's comet and photograph its nucleus.
