"Lucky Strike It's toasted" slogan

all know that the goal of a television series, has the theme you have is fun to have a good time, if we learn from it because we recreate an exciting time as competition in the advertising world in the early 60's much better, but sometimes the reality is quite different to how we tell it.

In the first chapter of the first season of my admired and award-winning TV series Mad Men entitled "Smoke blind your eyes," we can see how the advertising agency on Madison Avenue Cooper Starling has to create a new advertising campaign for its main customer, the cigarette brand Lucky Strike.

creative director Don Draper, at the last moment, when all seemed lost in the final meeting with owners of the mark, which would be able to invent a new slogan, "Lucky Strike It's toasted."

Video of the scene can not be inserted but can be seen from here.

in 1938 Spencer Tracy smoking his Lucky Strike
admit that when I saw the series I realized the mistake, was the first chapter does not know if it was a series of fiction or whether Otherwise everything was the fruit of imagination of their good writers but the fact is that the whole argument seemed quite credible. The series begins in 1959 in the midst of the golden age of advertising agencies of New York, and a chapter in which there is a real brand and a slogan we all know, but reviewing the blog, I noticed I had a picture of the year 1925 where they were building a billboard on the beach in Altantic City and just had a "Lucky Strike It's toasted" the series we had misrepresented the reality in many years and curiosity made me investigate the real author of that famous phrase ...

Lucky Strike It's Toast, Atlantic City 1925

The reality is that the slogan was born in 1917 and remained the slogan of Lucky Srtrike until it was changed in 1948 for "Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco", although "It's toasted" followed in its trademark logo.

Marlene Dietrich with his Lucky Strike

Srik Lucky name, cigarette brand American Tobacco Company Company comes from the era of the gold rush, when miners found gold exclaimed "Lucky Strike" (lucky), as that was the company. One night the factory was burned to affect all installations. But the snuff was in a store of iron and not burn, only toasted. That snuff had to use it in some way and used it to sell it as snuff roasted, luck smiled on its wide acceptance.

The true origin of the slogan has it George Washington Hill, manager of the company in 1925, in an interview published in Time magazine, December 1938.

S. Percival Hill (father of George) was eager to create a slogan for the brand, and one day coming to the factory to meet him, I felt a delicious aroma as it passes through machines, roasting of snuff. I told my father: "It seems we're cooking, cooks are snuff", and my father replied: "That does not mean anything, snuff concina not mean anything, it makes no sense." At that time a fellow Brown Gerson my father entered the room and asked, "Gerson, Is there something appealing to you when it is heated? and Brown replied: "The toast in the morning" And my father replied: "That's toast," and thus was born the famous phrase of the mark.

mythical origin Rajoy

After a few weeks using wordpress.com, I am compelled to correct and return to my old but renovated tontódromo Blogger.

wore a year without updating the blog, and it seemed a good idea to move the blog to worpress.com, because he believed that would solve some of the problems I had when editing in Blogger my entries. The images could not place a size commensurate with the width of my template, the text is out of position, I had many problems with editing posts with multiple pictures, video and text .... In the end I wanted to try on another platform.

At first I liked the post editor wordpress.com but replace my last post on blogger, announcing the change, I realized that blogger had improved greatly during the past year, solving all those problems, and if we add that wordpress.com does not allow editing the blog, or insert code html, java script or embed and to insert videos had to use an external program ... finally I realized that not really worth the change.

Wordpress.com is a good platform, but prefer to stick to Blogger. I'm sorry the problems that may have caused you and here I am again.

MUSICAL YOUTH CAMP: NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BURNED ALIVE CONCERTS

By: Felipe Argote

Past weekend we decided to take a short holiday weekend at the beach. Upon arrival at the hotel Jahir my son who is the musician of the family saw a flyer. He was referring to the presentation of the youth camp of the National Association of concerts at a restaurant called La Carreta at the entrance to Coronado.

lover of good music and knowing that some of his friends from the conservatory and the band of the Instituto Episcopal San Cristobal would be there, I asked they were witnessing the same night the restaurant in question. Of course we decided to attend the show with the expectation of seeing a small group of teenagers playing occasional uplifting music of popular songs.

We were pleasantly surprised to find the presentation on stage of a group of at least 50 adolescents with all the instruments of a symphony orchestra. To the left and right along the ropes were: violins, violas, cellos and basses in the background of percussion instruments: timpani, a box, a drum and a plate in front of them in the back, were the woodwinds : piccolo, flute, oboe and clarinet, then the brass: trumpets, trombones and a tuba.

Most interesting is the musical level of these children from public and private schools twelve to seventeen years of performing in the open without too much noise I execution impressive catalog. I could not record the entire presentation which includes parts of the Carmen opera, classical music and film scores, especially The Star Wars . I had not been prepared or expected to see this show, but I recorded parts, found on the right side this blog and my youtube channel fargote confirm my assertion.

Of course in the place had no TV, no children will be seen in the news, because it was virtuous young to attest that there is great hope for the future of the country. They were not gunmen, were not in gangs, or were fighting in a mall, so bad for these children is not news, because they may lose the politics of demonization that governments and media have risen up against our adolescents I see that on top of that there are individuals and organizations that support these activities are certainly not cheap, so they need the support of benefactors.

Youth Symphony Orchestra National Concert Association was led by Keneht L. Sarch of Mansfield University, Mario Rodriguez of Costa Rica and instructors nothing less than the Oberlin Conservatory. This is one of the best in the world located in Ohio where there are 120 vacancies annually and are postulated no less than 1400 candidates.

This camp began with auditions in September in Instituto Episcopal San Cristobal , undoubtedly the most promotes high school music in our country. There, applicants are divided into three groups according to their level. The camp this year is number 26 and takes place from 17 to 31 January. The children also submitted in La Carreta, are presented in Anton in the Old Town and the City of Knowledge, where the closure occurs.

It is deeply comforting to know that this year there were about 200 children participating in these camps that will surely benefit not only of musical knowledge but this serves for the development of mathematics.

Bottle Washer Sterilizer

By: Felipe Argote

Gabo had said that it is a chronicle of death foretold. Seven teenagers are burned alive before the television cameras while their murderers mock, insult them and finally, when they do go out with their flesh hanging in shreds, the thumping your staff are police. One of the trustees gritted his teeth while using both hands to gain more strength when the rod embedded in the ribs one is now deceased. Van and five dead.

The effect succumb to the flames is not as benevolent as it concluded a shot in the head. In the burnt, the death is slow. Gradually, the kidneys, liver, lungs lose their operating charred and hours or days, not immediately, after a sharp and sustained pain, the person dies. As this occurs, in the early stages, the victim has strength enough to walk in pain. This was used by police and stewards to hit teens viciously offenders.

None had killed, nor was hitman. Two of them had come to steal for the first time in a house. It was his first offense. Were caught and as is fitting, were punished with imprisonment for transgression. I was a week to serve his sentence. They were assassins or murderers, to the discomfort of some who want to find a justification to such barbarity.

But this situation does not arise by spontaneous generation, the ingredients that led to the fatal outcome has been cooked slowly. It began years ago with the campaign of demonization of teenagers by the current Minister of Education at the time seeking rating reality show starring the morning of a television channel. It is adorned with the campaign against the human rights of various radio programs starting with Renato Pereira, against those human rights defenders. Fifteen days after the abominable acts heard the radio commentator and a physician member of the ruling party in the previous government and now member of the party of the current government, which they had been taunted many tear gas and had never seen one of them started fire.

All this is flavored with civic despair that before the crime wave and the government's inability to stop it, in frustration, consider radical measures necessary. The catchy slogan of the heavy hand of former mayor Juan Carlos Navarro in his campaign.

Then came the case of Bocas de Toro in several deaths, some lost their sight completely and others partially, many still have high levels of lead in their body product of the pellets. No one is arrested. All excess is placed in the dustbin of oblivion. Rampant impunity in the country abounds.

Finally came the Law 74, which replaced Law 30, better known as chorizo \u200b\u200blaw that allows special treatment for police who commit excesses. This privilege they never had before formally, or in times of dictatorship, which states categorically that no police officer may be removed from office or placed in custody before a murder, was left in the new act repealed the 74 to 30. This with the consent of all parties involved in the dialogue to repeal, both employers and unions with the exception of the representatives of FRENADESO.

Teenagers burned were neither hired nor murderers. They were there for minor offenses and several were about to go free after paying their penalties. Not convenient for them to participate in the riot that developed after two weeks without water and twenty-four hours without food in a prison built for 45 prisoners where they had 185 young people.

they showed no mercy against the officers and trustees. This case is an abomination against humanity. The video of teenagers desperate as they burn slowly has traveled the world. Our investment grade country has fallen to level of barbarity.

The resignation of the chief of police and public security minister would be a fact in any civilized country, but not in Panama, where politicians entrenched in government: in this, the previous and that preceded it, are sharpened nails and teeth every morning for them to hold public office.

Flus Going Around 2010

correcting you've done for us this

Rajoy, why, you were in the past three years, without saying yes or no, without getting wet, without moving, we were all a gift Tancredo fact that you do not moved or the five million unemployed, nor the real risk of bankruptcy of Spain, or the many cases of corruption or economic solutions to fix Spain, and now you and betrayal, you come to an agreement with nocturnal and treachery to the PSOE Sinde pass the bill.

But you, who has deceived you?, To be now in favor of the same law that you rejected a month ago in the Senate. Because I do not understand, legal guarantees are the same, a competent tribunal appointed by the Ministry of Culture will be charged with determining the closure of a web. And this law, is the Reform party can accept?

The copyright in Spain was secured by intellectual property law, and we all agree that the authors should benefit from his work, but to achieve this, the business models should be adapted to new technologies and create new channels of distribution. We are all waiting for a movie Spotify and gladly would pay a monthly fee, and pay to Itunes when we downloaded a song, because the price is right, and take into account the reduced costs of distributing a work on the Internet.

In a game interventionist and censor what we could expect but you do not, and now you have given approval to a law that does not know where we are going to take, but what I know, today is your absolute majority is more distant ...

THE SUM OF THE DAYS OF ISABEL ALLENDE

By: Felipe Argote

is not so much what you write but as you write. In this book, Isabel Allende draws water from a stone. Its large capacity as Rapporteur that I believe had its highest peak in the fabulous historical novel Ines del Alma Mia shows that the Chilean writer born in Peru is able to develop a relatively common history with gusts of genius.

Although most of the novel seems a compromise with the publisher rather than the development of a novel of literary quality, the publication I was entertained but not caught me.

There are some unfortunate passages like the stripper dressed as a policeman that led Lori, the second wife of his son Nico, Willie, husband of Elizabeth, to play a joke. I think I have seen this routine in two films and three television comedy shows.

Elizabeth and her second husband, Willie Gordon
The sum of the days is a recent autobiography where the author lays bare the situation of his family, from of an imaginary conversation with her daughter Paula, who died of porphyria in 1992. He refers to his relationship with his other son Nico, his first wife, conservative to the core, a member of Opus Dei, who one day discovers that she is a lesbian and leaves to live with his partner Sally, who was then the wife of Jason, the son of Willie Gordon (name of cartoon character ), the husband of Isabel Allende, the children of this and their dependence on drugs, grandchildren and close friends. The tribe as she calls it.

One of his best books
The book is a bit self-centered perspective that Elizabeth not only presents itself as the axis, but as a benefactor of the family. Most work for her in a house they call "the brothel" because it is understood that as a brothel occupied many years ago. There is the Chambers of Elizabeth, Lori, who heads the foundation of the author and Willie, her husband, who works as a lawyer. All that takes is family, he says repeatedly, through its financing.

I really think that stretches the novel to the point that unlike most of the publications of Isabel Allende, where I feel worried when I see pages and I just do not want to finish it's attractive book, this time I wondered when it would end. It seemed that everything had been said but I was missing a considerable number of pages to read. I was surprised that it relates to blacks or African Americans and prefer to call in the United States as "persons of color"

Ines Suarez, the first English woman to arrive in Chile
and atrocities of the English colonizers

In various parts of the memoir develops something like "Behind the scenes" of how he developed his novels: the youth trilogy consists of: The City and the Beast, fabulous novel, The Kingdom of the Golden Dragon, a good novel but with some Hollywood type special effects, The Forest of the Pygmies who bored me at first reading it and left for another book.

Where life ends and fantasy begins is a line very difficult to establish probably even by the author herself.

recommend for entertaining reading but well below those of young and extremely trilogy under Portrait in Sepia, The House of the Spirits, Daughter of Fortune, Inés of My Soul and the Isle Under The Sea (See http://elblogdefelipeargote.blogspot.com/2010/04/la-isla-bajo-el-mar.html )

In an exhibition on Salvador Allende
Isabel Allende is the niece in the second degree of Salvador Allende, the Chilean president killed by the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. Born in Peru while her father served as Chile's ambassador in that country, was in exile in Venezuela and after divorcing her first husband, Miguel Frias moved to California where she lives with her second husband, Willie Gordon for twenty years.

DISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH: Lorentz curve and Gini coefficient RALEIGH

By: Felipe Argote

not easy to develop an article of this kind for the diversity of the blog readers. If it is too technical can be boring to an important segment of professionals are not economists. In contrast, if not the technical development of the concept may seem superficial to the segment formed by economists. Not to forget that the blog is primarily about economics.

To develop the distribution of national wealth and land on the distribution of wealth in Panama we must look first to the Lorenz curve to measure income inequality.

is worth mentioning that the creator of this curve Max Otto Lorenz is an American who published the concept while a doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin in 1905. It is interesting that in his doctoral thesis in 1906 makes no mention of his later famous curve that is called "Lorenz curve" from a 1922 publication called "elements of Statystical Methods." It is very easy to confuse the author with the much more famous mathematician Edward Norton Lorenz, a pioneer of the "chaos theory" and the "butterfly effect"

Lorenz curve is a measure of the relative distribution of a variant a given set. His greatest, but not the only use is to measure the concentration of wealth in a country or population group, although the Gini index to be discussed later which gives practical.

To calculate this distribution is presented on a graph where the X axis or horizontal axis lass placed the population divided into deciles (tenths) or quintiles (fifths) in ascending order cumulative , while the Y axis or axis vertrical accumulates according to their income. If the income was totally fair just for educational reasons, as this is utopian in the earthly plane the curve would be a line of 45 degrees, because the lowest income quintile would be 20% of income, 40% less income would have 40% of income and so on, 90% have 90% to 100.

But a less fanciful scenario we present the first quintile of income would be 10%, 40% of the population have access to 18% of income while the bottom quintile have almost 45% of income

The Gini coefficient in turn is a creation of the Italian Corrado Gini, an Italian statistician and political ally of Mussolini, who wrote the book " scientific bases of Fascism "in 1927.

Corrado Gini
This ratio, which measures any type of distribution is commonly used to measure income inequality. This is a number between 0 and 1 where zero corresponds to complete equality and 1 total inequality in the distribution. To calculate we Lorenz curve area above the curve and the area under the curve. The Gini coefficient would be equal to "a divided by (a + b)" or the area over the curve between the total area. For Of course the more smaller the area "a" or while the curve is closest to the line of perfection, which is the straight line of 45 degrees, the lower the ratio, that is is closer to zero and therefore be less income inequality. The larger the area above the curve, the division between it and the total area will be a number closer to one and therefore there will be more inequality. This ratio multiplied by one hundred will give us the same number in percentage terms and now instead we call it coefficient index.

Gini indicators will now see the world in descending order or whatever it is higher means more inequality, poor distribution of wealth.

According to the latest comparative relationship of this index which gives up nothing less than the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on their website https: / / www.cia.gov/library/publications/ the-world-factbook/fields/2172.html the country with the worst distribution of wealth is Namibia in Africa. The worst Latin American countries in order are Bolivia, which is the world number seven with the worst distribution, Paraguay, Panama number 8 and third worst in America and eleventh worst in the world, then still in Latin America: Brazil, Honduras, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Peru, Argentina, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Mexico, Ecuador, Uruguay, Nicaragua and Venezuela. Spain is set to 102.

The country with the best distribution is Sweden, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Slovakia, Austria, Finland and Luxembourg.

remember that it is not quantity but as income is distributed. This means that it has to do with poverty rates but on how to distribute the revenue generated.

Does The Dxg Fish Eye Work For All Models

AS ANDA

By Felipe Argote

SIR WALTER RALEIGH
Sir Walter Raleigh lived a hectic life. Since its birth in Devonshire, a town in England in 1952 his life was marked by a time of discovery, colonization, titles and treachery.

At the age of 32 he founded the colony of Virginia, north of the Florida colony founded by the English. It is claimed that it was he who brought the first plants to snuff in this U.S. state that produces one of the three most popular varieties in the world's virginity, the others being the havanensis and brasiliensis.

was governor of Jersey, a small island located in the Channel, closer to France than England, yet even today still under the dominion of Great Britain. It was an expedition of those who sought and never found El Dorado, South America's supposed place where lots of gold and stones. To this end we embarked up the Orinoco River and other of course returned with empty hands.

was but he was also parliamentary filibuster. Participated in the war against Spain which was part of the sack of Cadiz. He was a writer and historian. Described in detail all the atrocities of which he himself was a participant in the occupation and looting Cadiz and wrote a book called The History of the World. Amid the infighting of the English crown where it is not excluded a relationship with Queen Elizabeth and after coming to the throne of James I, Sir Walter Raleigh was imprisoned for twelve years. On leaving prison he went to South America in search of El Dorado. " Guyana was taken there and claimed it for England, but was arrested again, this time for a negotiation of the English with the English in Raleigh where he was the victim. He was taken to England where he was tortured and finally beheaded at the age of 66. Had a long life at that time.

But of all the places where he glory for England, is in North Carolina, a place where he founded the colony of Roanoke, where the greatest tribute he pays to put your name to the state capital. They were placed under the direction of Sir Walter Raleigh's first English settlers in the area.

Despite being the political capital of the state of North Carolina is Charlotte its neighbor to the east the most populous and economically stronger. Raleigh is a place full of oak trees with low population density and high per capita gross domestic product, where the vast green spaces provide refuge for large numbers of deer that are hunted in season hunting.

The city has a population of 400.000 inhabitants and was founded in 1792 as planned when they chose a place to locate the new state capital. The reason is that its location was near a traveling Tavern run by one Isaac Hunter. It was a very popular among the representatives of the time. In the year 1800 when it developed the first census ever recorded 700 people living alone.

currently coexist in Raleigh around 400.000 inhabitants, 63% are Caucasian, 27% 7% African American and Latino. Have per capita annual income of $ 25.000. Only 11% of the population lives below the poverty line

Andrew Johnson, President of the United States between 1865 and 1869, famous for being the vice president and successor to Abraham Lincoln after his assassination, was born in Raleigh in 1808. He was the only Democrat not aligned with southern secessionists during the Civil War and this earned him the vice presidency by Lincoln in a political movement. Remember that in those times, the opposite of now, the Democrats were the conservatives who defended slavery and Republicans abolitionists were instead more related to industry, who were strong in the north.

What Does Climbing Mean In A Dream

Fiftieth anniversary of the opening ceremony of the Kennedy presidency

Inaugural Address of John F. Kennedy. Washington January 20, 1961. Public Domain

On Thursday January 20 will mark the fiftieth anniversary of the swearing in of the thirty-fifth president of the United States John F. Kennedy, the youngest to be elected with 43 years, the only Roman Catholic and that because of their still excellent levels of popularity, was one of the best ever and an icon of hope and freedom for many Americans with election and presidency.

occasion of this anniversary, 200,000 written documents, 1,500 photographs and 1,200 audio files have been set up on the web John F. Kennedy Library and Museun of Boston, offering the opportunity to get to know the whole stage of the Kennedy Administration, one of the most exciting American history.

During his presidency, which lasted from 1961 until his assassination on November 22, 1963 in Austin (Texas) originated large historical events that today are still remembered for their significance and importance as were the invasion of the Bay of Pigs, the missile crisis in Cuba, the beginning of the space race, the consolidation of the Civil Rights Movement, construction Berlin Wall and the first incidents that result from the Vietnam War, but if for some reason it is remembered that president is the relevance and quality of their speeches, not for their historical interest but because of reading it observed that its message is still valid today.

As spoken through radio and television on June 11, 1963, urging Congress to pass legislation for Civil Rights. The famous speech delivered on June 26, 1961 in West Berlin where he heard his famous "I am a Berliner."

"Two thousand years ago was proud to say civis romanun sun (I am a Roman citizen). Today, the world of freedom, one can be proud to say Ich bin ein Berliner ... All free men, wherever they live, are citizens of Berlin and, therefore, as a free man, I'm proud to say 'Ich bin ein Berliner! " "

But the most memorable, was his famous inaugural address, which marks its fiftieth anniversary.

Full text of speech making Kennedy presidency January 20, 1961

"In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom. I do not shrink from this responsibility I welcome. I do not think any of us be changed by anyone other or people of another generation. The energy, faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country, to all who serve it and the glow from that fire will truly light the world.

And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.

Citizens of the world, ask not what America can do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

Finally, if U.S. citizens or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our actions, we will take to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on the work of God's earth we should really be ourselves "

His figure on the occasion of the presidential elections won by Obama, regained relevance to meet many similarities in Obama's campaign messages delivered by Kennedy with for fifty years is that despite to have some mistakes today, the world remembered for being one of the greatest defenders of freedom and democracy in recent modern history.
