Past weekend we decided to take a short holiday weekend at the beach. Upon arrival at the hotel Jahir my son who is the musician of the family saw a flyer. He was referring to the presentation of the youth camp of the National Association of concerts at a restaurant called La Carreta at the entrance to Coronado.
lover of good music and knowing that some of his friends from the conservatory and the band of the Instituto Episcopal San Cristobal would be there, I asked they were witnessing the same night the restaurant in question. Of course we decided to attend the show with the expectation of seeing a small group of teenagers playing occasional uplifting music of popular songs.
We were pleasantly surprised to find the presentation on stage of a group of at least 50 adolescents with all the instruments of a symphony orchestra. To the left and right along the ropes were: violins, violas, cellos and basses in the background of percussion instruments: timpani, a box, a drum and a plate in front of them in the back, were the woodwinds : piccolo, flute, oboe and clarinet, then the brass: trumpets, trombones and a tuba.
Most interesting is the musical level of these children from public and private schools twelve to seventeen years of performing in the open without too much noise I execution impressive catalog. I could not record the entire presentation which includes parts of the Carmen opera, classical music and film scores, especially The Star Wars . I had not been prepared or expected to see this show, but I recorded parts, found on the right side this blog and my youtube channel fargote confirm my assertion.

Of course in the place had no TV, no children will be seen in the news, because it was virtuous young to attest that there is great hope for the future of the country. They were not gunmen, were not in gangs, or were fighting in a mall, so bad for these children is not news, because they may lose the politics of demonization that governments and media have risen up against our adolescents I see that on top of that there are individuals and organizations that support these activities are certainly not cheap, so they need the support of benefactors.
Youth Symphony Orchestra National Concert Association was led by Keneht L. Sarch of Mansfield University, Mario Rodriguez of Costa Rica and instructors nothing less than the Oberlin Conservatory. This is one of the best in the world located in Ohio where there are 120 vacancies annually and are postulated no less than 1400 candidates.
This camp began with auditions in September in Instituto Episcopal San Cristobal , undoubtedly the most promotes high school music in our country. There, applicants are divided into three groups according to their level. The camp this year is number 26 and takes place from 17 to 31 January. The children also submitted in La Carreta, are presented in Anton in the Old Town and the City of Knowledge, where the closure occurs.
It is deeply comforting to know that this year there were about 200 children participating in these camps that will surely benefit not only of musical knowledge but this serves for the development of mathematics.
